Nutrition for dogs and cats

What your pet eats affects its weight, skin, digestion and life expectancy. In a nutrition consultation we assess your pet and recommend the diet that suits it best, keeping things simple.

Weight control

Being overweight is one of the most common problems in pet dogs and cats, and it contributes to joint problems, diabetes and other diseases. We work out how much your pet should eat, weigh it regularly and adjust the plan.

Prescription diets

Some diseases are largely managed through diet: kidney, digestive and urinary problems, food allergies or diabetes. These diets should be prescribed and reviewed by a vet. The diets we recommend are available in the clinic shop.

The right food at every stage

  • Puppies and kittens: need more energy and nutrients to grow.
  • Adults: keeping an ideal weight and staying active.
  • Seniors: looking after kidneys, joints and muscle.
  • Neutered pets: usually need fewer calories to avoid weight gain.

Frequently asked questions

Can I feed home-made food?

Yes, but it has to be properly balanced so nothing is missing. If you would like to try it, we will help you plan it.

How can I tell if my dog is overweight?

You should be able to feel its ribs without seeing them, and see a waist when looking from above. If in doubt, come in and we will weigh it.
